lyrics

Mike C why'd ya hafta leave? Everybody to grieve & wear our hearts on our sleeve?
I just couldn't beleive that you had ceased to breathe / We've all been bereaved but received your memories

(V1)
He was not your basic, average all canadian boy / Although he loved playing hockey & loved playing with toys
Half humour half talent was his mixture / A stuffed Grover from Sesame Street in his school picture
A love for life, he was generous & kind / I could tell the first time when we met in grade 9
Mike was playing in The Stiffs & working for the city / but had the time to say "HI" when I was skateboarding by
He was a few years older than me but it didn't matter / cus it made me feel equal when I chatted with "The Chatter"
Started partying at Dove's and watched our friendship burgeoun / Went to every show he played with the Epileptic Brain Surgeons
Soccer after school with the crew smoking bowls / it was Rangers vs. Celtic with the greeks playing goal
freestyling by the flagpole dreams of being showstoppers / Graduation flashed by & then the death of Grasshopper

(CHORUS)
Mike C why'd ya hafta leave? Everybody to grieve & wear our hearts on our sleeve?
I just couldn't beleive that you had ceased to breathe / We've all been bereaved but received your memories (RIP)
Mike C why'd ya hafta choose? Not to give us any clues we were bruised & confused...
We used to drink brews, puff dubes, jam tunes / the who's who of your crew still be singing the blues (like.....)

(V2)
Now it's the very first time we're moving out on our own / and I was blessed enough to have you living in the home
You were like a big bro who would always console / & 3 n Pass had grown into Black Belt Jones
I remember New Years Eve it was the end of 93 / I was dating Sassy T we hit some bash up in the city/
we was smoking mad weed & swigging ginseng tea / & swailin' Old Milwuakees, Dos Equis & Kokanees/
You was blacked out asleep but still standing on your feet / Climbed & hid up in a tree so nobody could see/
That you was having dry heaves puking from 12 feet / Man there ain't ever gonna be another quite like thee
Night's gone dead pots gonna burn you'd croon cute birds you'd see (singing)
(RIGHT ON RED HOT MAMMA GIRL YOU SURE LOOK GOOD TO ME)

(CHORUS)
Mike C why'd ya hafta leave? Everybody to grieve & wear our hearts on our sleeve?
I just couldn't beleive that you had ceased to breathe / We've all been bereaved but received your memories (RIP)

(V3)
Time passed on we kind of went seperate paths / But you still made time to come & visit for some laughs
You were still dj'ing still truer than true / still jamming in the experience with gary & sue
Then we sorta lost touch around 2003 / but I would leave messages on your machine randomly
I wanted you to be there the day I got married / Never thought the next time I'd see you was the day you got buried
You wouldn't believe how many people came to your funeral / which proved without a doubt how many people truly loved you
It was like John Candy & Steve Martin both keeled (over) / Cus people came by planes, trains & automobiles (brotha)
It took two years since you passed to write this song / if I could find the right words it would have been 90 minutes long
I knew I wouldn't have closure until this track was complete / Had to load it up with samples that you loved as well as beats
We was all dumbfounded we didn't know what to say / Until Gary gave a eulogy that gave you perfect praise
Came to mourn you in death but we celebrate your life / Cus you were always positive and never bothered with the strife
Heard the story of how you got your first guitar & with ease / learned to play your moms favorite song (first) "Greensleeves"
But now your guitar just gently weeps / as do I everytime that I hear "Greensleeves" (RIP)

(CHORUS)
Mike C why'd ya hafta leave? Everybody to grieve & wear our hearts on our sleeve?
I just couldn't believe that you had ceased to breathe / We've all been bereaved but received your memories (RIP)
Mike C why'd ya hafta choose? Not to give us any clues we were bruised & confused...
We used to drink brews, puff dubes, jam tunes / the who's who of your crew still be singing the blues (like.....)

(And here's a solo for you, cus I know you loved that guitar.....rock on!)
